Shreve & Co., Silver Stemmed Bowl, Late 19th-early 20th Century
A solid silver footed cup, decorated around its rim and base with raised leaves and flowers.
The reverse is inscribed “SHREVE&CO/SAN FRANCISCO/STERLING”.
Shreve & Co. was an American silversmithing firm founded in San Francisco in 1852 by jewelers George C. Shreve and Samuel S. Shreve. They quickly became known to a prestigious clientele for their exquisite jewelry, watches, and silverware, which they sold through illustrated catalogs. In parallel, they also created exceptional pieces, such as a solid gold bear presented to Theodore Roosevelt by the citizens of San Francisco, and a gift given to Queen Elizabeth II by the State of California on the occasion of her coronation in 1953.
