Artist: Alfred Dubucand (1828-1894)

A majestic and imposing bronze cast with a gold patina , depicting a pheasant perched with natural grace on a rock , accompanied by a lizard , by the animal sculptor Alfred Dubucand (1828–1894) .
The choice of this subject reveals the sculptor’s interest in hunting and naturalistic themes , characteristic of his era.
The sculptor’s naturalistic approach is evident in the meticulous details of the sculpture and the modeling of the forms , which suggest the animals’ movement and vitality .
As for the plumage , each feather is rendered with a precision that lends the work striking realism , while conveying a sense of lightness and dynamism .
The choice of a rock profusely adorned with vegetation as the base highlights the natural habitat of the pheasant and the lizard , further emphasizing the connection between the animals and their environment .
In short , this work is a celebration of natural beauty , enhanced by human skill .
The work was created during the second half of the 19th century and bears the sculptor’s signature , "DUBUCAND", engraved in the base .
