Bronze By Jules Moigniez, 1835–1894: “fight Between Two Sparrows,” 1867 Model
A very beautiful old cast in bronze with a golden-brown patina, depicting a fight between two sparrows, a work by the famous French animal sculptor Jules Moigniez (1835–1894).
The model, created in 1867, depicts a particularly lively animal scene with great movement and realism. The birds are captured in the midst of a confrontation, wings spread, in a dynamic composition that reflects Moigniez’s characteristic attention to detail in rendering plumage and his naturalistic observation.
The terrace, richly carved and adorned with plant motifs, plays a full part in the composition. The brown patina with golden-brown hues particularly highlights the modeling and the sculpture’s numerous details.
The signature “J. Moigniez” is incised on the pedestal and clearly visible.
This is an early edition, featuring fine chiseling and a nuanced patina.
