Sculpture - Jockey On Horseback , Alfred Dubucand (1828–1894) - Bronze

Artist: Alfred Dubucand (1828-1894)

A significant bronze sculpture with a golden-brown patina, depicting a jockey on horseback, by the sculptor Alfred Dubucand (1828–1894).
The jockey is depicted at rest after the race, in a proud and serene pose.
His left hand rests flat on the horse’s hindquarters, while his right hand holds the reins with ease.
He wears the standard attire of 19th-century horse racing : a riding helmet, a fitted jockey’s jacket, and riding boots.
The jockey is depicted alongside his mount, a finely rendered Arabian thoroughbred, captured in full stride.
True to the influence of his mentor Antoine-Louis Barye, Alfred Dubucand demonstrates extreme anatomical realism.
One can clearly distinguish the muscular tension beneath the coat, the bony structure of the limbs, and the meticulous details of the bridle and saddle.
Alfred Dubucand pays particular attention to anatomical details and the accuracy of his subjects’ movements.
The piece rests on a naturalistic rectangular base that mimics a grassy ground, typical of animal bronzes from this period.
It bears the sculptor’s signature "A.DUBUCAND".
A rare antique sculpture dating from the second half of the 19th century.
Excellent condition and patina.

Dimensions: 42 cm x 43 cm x 14 cm
