Silver Samovar. Johan Olsonius, Russia, Saint Petersburg, Third Quarter Of The 19th Century
A cylindrical silver samovar, crafted in the third quarter of the 19th century by Johan Olsonius, one of the leading master craftsmen at the Grachev Brothers’ workshop, purveyors to the Russian Imperial Court. The piece displays the distinctive characteristics of the St. Petersburg school of jewelry and artistic metalwork: precise proportions, architectural clarity of form, and a high level of craftsmanship. The body is distinguished by its balanced form, reflecting the metropolitan taste and academic traditions of the second half of the 19th century. The spout is adorned with a finely cut, lanceolate openwork plate, emphasizing the decorative expressiveness of the ensemble. The side handles are embellished with turned ivory inlays, creating a refined contrast in materials and enhancing the visual elegance of the composition. The samovar rests on four flattened spherical feet, typical of the Grachev Brothers’ productions from this period. The interior retains traces of the original gilding.
