An Exceptional Pair Of Crystal Tazzas On Silver Base. By The Grachev Brothers.
EXCEPTIONAL PAIR OF CRYSTAL TAZZAS ON SILVER BASE. GRACHEV BROTHERS, RUSSIA, SAINT PETERSBURG, LATE 19TH CENTURY
An exceptional pair of ceremonial tazzas of museum quality, crafted in the workshops of the Grachev Brothers, official suppliers to the Imperial Court, exemplifying the highest achievements of late 19th-century Russian silversmithing.
The design is based on a striking contrast between the large, richly cut crystal bowls and the sculptural silver bases, featuring stylized dolphins. The dolphins’ bodies are depicted in dynamic motion, with finely chiseled scales and expressive modeling of the heads and fins. The tails support shell-shaped elements, providing an elegant transition between the base and the bowl and giving the piece a harmonious and unified silhouette.
Each base rests on three twisted legs adorned with foliage in relief, reinforcing the organic character and decorative richness of the ensemble. The crystal bowls are crafted using deep-cut techniques, adorned with star-shaped rosettes and geometric motifs, creating a refined play of light and emphasizing the ceremonial nature of the pieces.
