Gold Snuff Box With Enamel. Georg Remond, Lamy & Co., Geneva, 1801–1805
A rare gold snuffbox crafted in Geneva between 1801 and 1805 in the workshop of Georg Rémond & Lamy et Cie, one of the leading Swiss jewelry houses of the first quarter of the 19th century. The lid is adorned with a complex figurative composition executed in painted enamel, depicting the ancient dramatic scene “The Death of Lucretia.” The scene is framed by an elegant setting of chiseled gold and outline enamels in deep cobalt and black tones, characteristic of the Geneva school during the Consulate period.
The body is made of 18-karat gold and decorated with a fine diagonal guilloché pattern. The rim is accented by decorative borders alternating between stylized ribbons, foliage motifs, and blue enamel inlays. The corners are adorned with vertical panels featuring classical elements. The interior surfaces of the lid and body are mirror-polished, highlighting the excellence of the craftsmanship.
