Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, created in Russia in the mid-19th century. The image was painted in the tradition of the Russian school of icon painting, using the classical technique of tempera on a levkas ground, with gilding. The composition follows one of the most revered iconographic types of the Mother of God, the Hodigitria, in which the Virgin Mary is depicted with the Infant Jesus, both turned toward the faithful in a silent spiritual dialogue.

The faces of the Mother of God and Christ the Savior are painted with great tenderness and deep inner contemplation, characteristics of 19th-century Russian iconography. The delicate modeling of the features, the restrained color palette, and the expression in their eyes emphasize the idea of divine intercession, mercy, and grace.
