Landscape With A Canal. Pen-and-ink Drawing In The Style Of Rembrandt's Landscapes, Europe
A graphic drawing depicting a rural landscape, executed in pen and ink. The composition unfolds along a winding canal that draws the eye into the depth of the scene. On the left bank are farm buildings and a cart, behind which rises a group of trees forming a dense silhouette on the horizon.
In the center of the composition, the canal is spanned by a small bridge across which a human figure is passing. The right bank forms a gentle hill over which a horse-drawn cart is moving. The drawing is executed with free, energetic lines that capture the rhythm of the banks, the silhouettes of the trees, and the character of the rural landscape.
The style of execution follows the tradition of 17th-century Dutch landscape drawing and evokes the landscape studies of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669), created during his walks in the Amsterdam area.
The sheet is mounted on a decorative green mat and set in a carved frame.
