Jean-michel Folon (1934–2005) – “vase No. 10 Building” – 2001 – La Tuilerie
An important painted and glazed ceramic vase by Jean-Michel Folon (1934–2005), the “Vase No. 10 Building” model, created in 2001 and produced at La Tuilerie in Treigny.
DESCRIPTION
Ovoid in shape, the vase embodies Folon’s characteristic poetic universe. A stylized city with geometric architecture unfolds in its lower section, while the upper section is adorned with celestial bodies and circular shapes evoking a celestial universe. The subtle color palette combines bluish gray, ivory, pale yellow, and pinkish hues with the brown tones of the urban landscape.
FOLON signature incorporated into the design.
The following stamps appear beneath the base:
FOLON
LA TUILERIE – 89520 TREIGNY
PLEIN FEU – ORIGINAL IMPRINT
as well as the reference 10A and the handwritten edition number 7/8.
The piece is documented under the title “Vase No. 10 Building” in a 2020 Artcurial auction and referenced in the bibliography dedicated to Folon’s ceramics, notably the catalog for the exhibition “Ceramiche di Folon,” Villa Paolina, Viareggio, 2004.
