Pair Of Japanese Satsuma Vases, Signed "kusube"

A magnificent pair of Japanese Satsuma-style vases, likely made between the end of the Meiji era and the beginning of the Taishō era, around 1890–1920.

These elegant vases feature a delicate hand-painted design of chrysanthemums in nuanced tones, standing out against a subtly textured background. The finesse of the design and the delicacy of the color palette particularly highlight the shape of the vases.

They bear the signature of the Kusube company, led by the entrepreneur and ceramist Kusube Sennosuke, whose ceramic workshops were based in Kyoto. These pieces were intended primarily for the Western market and a wealthy, aristocratic clientele.

A beautiful pair representative of Japanese production intended for export in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period marked by European enthusiasm for Japanese decorative arts.
