Pair Of Japanese Satsuma Vases, Circa 1900

An elegant pair of Japanese Satsuma-style porcelain vases, dating from the late Meiji period or early Taisho period, circa 1900–1920.

Each vase has a tall, square-sectioned form, decorated on all four sides with hand-painted Japanese scenes. The decoration wraps around the vases and depicts lively scenes of the city, the marketplace, and gardens, featuring figures in traditional costumes, Japanese architecture, roofing details, and landscape elements.

The upper portion is adorned with circular “mon”-style motifs, gilded decorations, and refined details. The base bears a red Japanese mark, which reads “Nippon Yokohama / Satsuma ware,” likely linking this pair to the Satsuma ware produced in Yokohama for export in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

A very beautiful decorative pair, ideal for a collection of Japanese ceramics, Asian art, or a refined interior.

In good overall condition, with age-related wear, slight wear to the gilding, minor surface marks, and natural crazing of the glaze. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
