Antique 17th-century snuffbox made of brass and repoussé copper, attributed to the German master engraver Johann Heinrich Giese, who was active in Iserlohn around 1760 (marked GIESE ISERLON)
It commemorates military exploits from the Seven Years’ War, depicting on one side a portrait of Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick, and a scene from the Battle of Minden (August 1, 1759), and on the other side, Frederick II the Great, King of Prussia and the Duke of Brunswick’s principal ally during the Seven Years’ War.
