Portrait of a Young Woman with a Blue Ribbon – 18th-Century Pastel – Louis XVI Period
An elegant pastel portrait depicting a young woman in a half-length portrait, wearing a blue ribbon adorned with a delicate bouquet of white flowers.
The subject, with a gentle face and a delicate rosy complexion, wears a pale blue dress covered by a white veil tied at the chest. Her powdered hair, styled in soft curls, as well as her attire, are characteristic of women’s fashion during the Louis XVI era.
The subtle rendering of the skin tones, the delicacy of the gaze, and the subtle shades of the fabrics attest to the high quality of the workmanship.
The work is displayed under glass in an elegant circular gilded wooden frame, decorated with a beaded frieze.
The reverse features an original mounting with a wooden stretcher bar reinforced by two crossed crossbars. The perimeter retains its original protective paper, which shows tears and repairs. The backing panel is held in place by its original, visible frame.
French School, late 18th century, Louis XVI period, circa 1770–1790; stylistic dating to be confirmed.
Pastel on paper, unsigned to the best of our knowledge.
In good overall condition, with some signs of age and past restorations to the frame.
