Large Bronze Medallion After Clodion, 19th Century

Bronze medallion in relief after Clodion – Allegorical scene

A beautiful oval bronze medallion with a golden patina, executed after a composition attributed to Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738–1814).

It depicts an elegant allegorical scene in the 18th-century style: a woman accompanied by a child stands before a richly ornamented altar, surmounted by a figure of Cupid. The scene is set in a pastoral setting enlivened by foliage and birds.

The finesse of the modeling, the movement of the drapery, and the richness of the details are characteristic of the graceful, mythological style associated with Clodion.

Antique bronze relief, likely made in the 19th century. Beautiful natural patina with some traces of oxidation and signs of wear visible in the photographs. Original mounting system on the reverse.
