Lidded Vases, A Pair Of Sèvres Porcelain And Gilded Bronze Vases – 19th Century
A rare and spectacular pair of lidded porcelain vases with a sky-blue background, richly mounted in finely chased and gilded bronze, in the Louis XVI style, made in the 19th century.
Each vase is adorned with delicate hand-painted reserves depicting 18th-century-inspired gallant scenes, while the reverse is decorated with superb polychrome floral bouquets. The gilded bronze mounts, of exceptional craftsmanship, feature a rich decoration of acanthus leaves, flowers, garlands, vine leaves, and openwork clasps, resting on a particularly elegant, flowing base.
The bases bear a Sèvres blue mark. The shape, decoration, and quality of the bronzes are reminiscent of the great works of the second half of the 19th century, as was frequently the case with luxury porcelain intended for interior decoration.
