Portraits Of The Princesses Of Bourbon, Daughters Of Louis XIV – Early 18th Century

A rare set of three portraits traditionally identified as Marie-Anne de Bourbon (1666–1739), Louise-Françoise de Bourbon, known as Mademoiselle de Nantes (1673–1743), and Françoise-Marie de Bourbon, known as Mademoiselle de Blois (1677–1749), legitimised daughters of King Louis XIV.

Painted in oil on canvas in the early 18th century, these oval portraits belong to the tradition of French court portraiture at the end of the reign of Louis XIV and recall the work of Pierre Gobert (1662–1744).

The princesses are portrayed at half-length, wearing sumptuous court dresses adorned with fine fabrics, lace and drapery, rendered in a refined and delicate palette.

Each portrait is presented in an antique carved wood frame, gilded with gold leaf and surmounted by a crowned armorial cartouche. The symmetrical decoration of acanthus scrolls and shells is characteristic of the Régence style, anticipating the Louis XV taste.

A rare and harmonious ensemble. The set has recently undergone professional cleaning and conservation treatment, carried out with respect for the original materials and the antique patina.

Good overall condition, with signs of age and earlier restorations.
