Pair Of Nanjing Vases Made Of Polychrome Crackled Porcelain, China, 19th Century
A very beautiful pair of Nanjing vases made of polychrome-glazed porcelain on a crackled background, resting on elegant openwork gilded bronze bases.
The vases are richly decorated with lively scenes depicting dignitaries, warriors, horsemen, and court figures moving through a vast mountainous landscape. The compositions, executed with great finesse, alternate between military and ceremonial scenes set against a backdrop of stylized mountains, pavilions, and vegetation—a hallmark of Nanjing porcelain from the second half of the 19th century.
The decoration is executed in a harmonious palette of greens, blues, pinks, and mauves on an ivory background with visible craquelure, lending depth and refinement to the overall effect. The gilded bronze mounts, finely chiseled and openwork, highlight the vases’ elegance and lend them a remarkable decorative presence.
