Contents of the volume
  • New Price List for Mirrors (1765)From the collection of Prault the Elder, Printer to the King, Paris. (74 pages).
This technical booklet served as an official reference for merchants, mirror makers, and architects to accurately assess the cost of mirror glass based on its dimensions (height and width in inches/lines). Title page adorned with a superb engraved vignette (a radiant sun) and the inscription: “The price is forty sols, bound in paperback”.
  • Decree of the King’s Council of State, October 13, 1781Excerpt from the Registers of the Council of State. (6 pages).
Rare regulatory document bound in the collection. This valuable text directly concerns the taxation of the Royal Manufactory. At the request of Louis Regnard (holder of the Manufactory’s privilege), the King addresses the detrimental impact of an edict from August 1781 that imposed a tax of “ten livres per quintal of glass, both rough and polished”. The decree adjusts this tax to protect the glass trade in the domestic market and for export abroad. The header of this document is magnificently adorned with a banner engraved by Torpille depicting the Coat of Arms of France flanked by two cherubs (one sounding the trumpet of Fame).
  • Condition
    • Binding: Good overall condition, corners slightly rounded and normal signs of wear on the edges and caps, perfectly consistent with its period (18th century). The spine has retained its gilding and title label.
    • Interior: Very fresh, text perfectly legible, beautiful typographic layout.
