Marshal Marmont, Duke Of Ragusa, Cast-iron Portrait Signed "posch"

Cast iron medallion depicting Auguste-Frédéric-Louis de Marmont (1774-1852),
Marshal of the French Empire and Duke of Ragusa. The portrait shows the Duke facing left in a striking profile derived from the original wax model created by Leonhard Posch (Fügen, 1750 - Berlin, 1831), the distinguished sculptor and medallist associated with the Napoleonic era.

A longstanding companion of Napoleon Bonaparte, Marmont took part in numerous military campaigns and held important administrative appointments. His career remains closely associated with the events of 1814, which later drew some of Napoleon's harshest criticism.

This Berlin cast iron example illustrates the high quality achieved by Prussian foundries during the early nineteenth century. The relief is crisp and finely executed, highlighting the facial features as well as the military decorations and insignia.

The plaque measures approximately 8 cm in diameter and is housed in its original engraved gilt brass surround, believed to be contemporary with the piece.

Condition: good overall condition. No significant defects observed. The surface displays an attractive aged patina and light historical polishing, enhancing the visibility of the relief's fine details.
