Beautiful cedar wood barrel, tool marks, all studded on red fabric, circled with cut and engraved brass, which rests on a horizontal foot. On one side, a bronze medallion. Filled from top, stopper trimmed with brass. Small neck pierced with holes, like a directional sprinkler. Large cut bronze handle, held by two rings. These objects are presented in sales and museums as the barrel carrying ultimate comforts to the dying on battlefields. Here is the translation of a Turkish text, : "In the Ottoman era, when there was nothing more to do for soldiers seriously wounded in war, doctors made dying soldiers drink a sorbet prepared with Zamzam (sacred water from Mecca) in this small barrel to soften their mouths before they became martyrs."
Object is in good condition, apparently not damaged by war. A bronze medallion is missing on one side.
