Jewelry Box, 15th Century, Venice, Wood And Painted Iron
Artist: Ateliers Vénitiens
Beautiful box, 15th century Venetian primitive, with domed lid opening obliquely, pegged wood, trim with stamped and painted tin plates, studded with brass tapestry seeds. Framed by these iron fittings, on prestigious boxes of the period, there were small paintings of painted and embossed leather, but ours shows an old pink faux marble paint. It is the classic shape of the long Venetian wedding chests of period, (see last photo), but here declined in a miniaturized table box.
The object closes with its hasp, its lock, a pretty little period key apparently retouched, which works (if you pull it while turning it). Rare object in this small size!
Good condition, but which is not perfect: well-distributed wear, small lacks of metal, wood has some limited worm attacks, (see red arrows), and inside trim, green and silver, is of course not original. External colors are from the period, only washed and waxed. Take a good look at our photos.....
