Large, 16th-century Forged-and-rolled Utility Key, 16 Cm
Artist: Art Populaire
A thick, heavy 16-cm key—a barn key, for example—solidly forged from a flat lingot, with a ring formed from two strands joined and hot-forged together, a rolled shank , and a bite consists of two blades joined and hot-hammered together, as can be clearly seen in our close-up photo; the keyways are open, with vertical and oblique cuts made with a saw.
