Dated 1617, Beautiful Bronze Tripod Apothecary Cauldron, With Ornate Feet
Artist: Art Religieux
Beautiful tripod cauldron with iron handle, from the Apothecary of one Hotel-Dieu, these hospitals run by religious congregations since Middle Ages. This object is dedicated to Christ, and dated 1617, still Gothic letters. It is a fairly neat cast of brass in two shells, which was used for preparation of medicines or drugs, hence its small size.
Globular in shape, placed on high feet with masks of bearded men, tips of feet with children's faces, triangular handles and strong wrought iron handle, the preparation was placed more or less high on the ashes or embers.....
Dimensions: 22cm H, 24cm diameter. Weight: 3.4kg
It suffered a little during these 4 centuries, but was fairly correctly repaired: a foot restored to its attachment on body, a small crack on edge too, also, see red arrows in our photos.
This item is for immediate purchase, payable by credit card or paypal.
