Lined Velvet Box, Embroidered Of Silver, Circa 1850, Orientaliste
Large wooden box covered with silver embroidery and colors on a black silk velvet background, with a striking contrast. On the lid, a large monogram of silver threads in embroidered twists. It opens with lid and flap, the interior is padded with clear silk. The general shape is that of a box for shawls, precious textiles.
Work French or English, middle nineteenth, for the Turkish market. It may also be the opposite: Middle East for shipping to Europe ....

Condition of discovery: beautiful appearance, but there are flaws: the corners of the front and bottom of the flap are worn, a hinge of the inner flap too, trace of one or two tears glued. All these flaws are not very visible, so I have marked them with arrows .........
