High Bronze Grand Tour, 19th Century, Flying Mercury, Carrara Marble Base,
Artist: Grand Tour
Sorry, no export airmail for this,
This marvelous sculpture, after Giambologna (1529-1608), is a 19th-century Florentine edition, boasting beautiful chiseling and patina.
It rests on a 5.5 kg Carrara marble base, a column with a capital that perfectly complements this ethereal work.
The entire piece stands 68 cm tall and weighs approximately 7 kg.
"An absolute masterpiece of Mannerist sculpture, Giambologna's Mercure is a three-dimensional interpretation of the figure of Mercury painted by Raphael for the Villa Farnese at beginning of 16th century."
City of Florence specialized in reproducing this masterpiece in all sizes in renowned workshops; our example must have been acquired during 19th century.
Smaller and less magnificent than the one on Place de la Bastille, it is nonetheless in presentable condition.
Marble base shows signs of wear, while Mercury, as is often the case, has been repaired on foot, plinth of the base is slightly cracked (see photos).
Marble and bronze will be shipped together, but in separate packaging.
Bronze dimensions: 43cm x 15cm, weight: 1.7kg.
Carrara base: 27cm x 15cm diameter, weight: 5.5kg.
Available for immediate purchase, payable by credit card or PayPal.
