Mercury Bronze
Mercury (Hermes in Greek mythology) was one of the twelve Olympian gods. A recurring figure in mythological themes, he generally appears as a secondary character: messenger of the gods or guide of mortals. Mercury is usually depicted as a graceful and athletic young man. His attributes are the wings that reach his ankles, the petasos (winged hat), and the caduceus (winged staff entwined with two snakes, missing here). The talias and petasos allow him to move swiftly, while the caduceus promotes sleep. The base of this statue represents the head of Aeolus, god of favorable winds.
