Dimensions: 49 × 34 cm, Weight: 2.4 kg
Large ceremonial dish made from tin-glazed earthenware from Nîmes region.
Rectangular in shape with rounded corners, it features a deep basin framed by a wide border of heavily molded godrons, reminiscent of certain models from late reign of Louis XIV.
Design of shape evokes the outline of the famous Bassin d’Apollonat Versailles, and the desire for grandeur characteristic of the reign of Louis XIV.
Decorated in grand-feu blue on a finely craquelé white glaze, composed of Baroque-inspired lambrequins surrounding an elegant central medallion featuring Oriental flowers.
Quality of relief, thickness of clay, and its imposing dimensions give it a remarkable presence.
Border and crackle pattern can be compared to a large platter held in the Nîmes Museum, shown on last photo.
Condition: well-preserved overall. Some minor age-related wear on tcorners of inner bowl and slight signs of wear normal for its great age.
