Dutch Delft Blue And White ‘talking Plate’, De Porceleyne Schotel, 1724–1764
Delft earthenware plate bearing a humorous inscription taken from a French song.
Made of tin-glazed earthenware, decorated in shades of blue, featuring a cursive inscription in the center surmounted by the title “Vaudeville 2.” The rim is adorned with elongated floral cartouches alternating with small circular medallions containing star motifs, on a checkered background.
This “talking plate” bears a verse evoking a young nun who, weary of convent life, calls out to passersby from her window. The verse is followed by a rhythmic refrain centered on the word “mirliton.”
The reverse bears the mark of Jan Pennis, owner of the De Porceleyne Schotel factory from 1724 to 1764.

Vaudeville 2
