Pair Of Rococo Delft Earthenware Salad Bowls Decorated With An Italian Landscape, Mid-18th Century
Pair of Rococo Delftware salad bowls, De Bijl factory, mid-18th century
Pair of Delftware salad bowls with a blue monochrome decoration, quadrangular in shape with a scalloped rim.
The center of each piece features an Italianate landscape animated by figures, with a tower and trees in the foreground, and ruins and hills in the distance. Both designs follow the same composition, with slight variations in the details.
The borders are adorned with fruit, flowers, and leafy scrollwork, interspersed with rocaille motifs that follow the undulating contours of the form.
Both salad bowls bear the De Bijl factory mark on the reverse.
