Saint Francis Of Assisi, Renaissance-style Maiolica, 19th Century, Signed

Dimensions:23 × 3.5 cm
Italianfaience dish dating from 19th century, signed beneath the foot, now ground down.
It reproduces with great care and attractive polychrome decoration the famous Saint Francis Crespina, circa 1570, preserved in the Petit Palais Museum in Paris (last photograph).
Through its decoration and quality of execution, this piece may be associated with the production of the Minardi family of Faenza, who played an important role in the19th-century revival of historic Italian maiolica.
The decorated side is well preserved and remains in very good condition.
The foot was broken in the past and subsequently ground down, so the piece now takes the form of a shallow bowl.
A fine example of the Italian Renaissance Revival, depicting one of the most revered saints in Christianity.
