A Large Pair Of Neoclassical Wall Sconces In Chiseled And Gilded Bronze, Late 19th Century.

A large pair of three-arm wall sconces in chiseled and gilded bronze, in the Louis XVI style, French craftsmanship from the late 19th century.

Large in size and of fine craftsmanship, they are distinguished by their refined design, exquisite chiseling, and particularly elaborate ornamentation, drawn entirely from the neoclassical repertoire.

The tapered central shaft is punctuated by rows of pearls and twisted flutes. Its upper section is adorned with acanthus leaves and crowned with a leaf-shaped finial. In its lower section, a sheathed cartouche features a cascade of medallions, accompanied by droplets and extended by a foliage cascade.

The three square-section light arms, gracefully curved and adorned with foliage, are attached to the shaft by rosette-shaped brackets. They support large cups with radiating openwork, surmounted by fluted finials resting in leafy corollas.

The abundance of motifs, the quality of their chiseling, and the care taken in their design give these sconces a particularly decorative character and distinguish them from the more commonly found Louis XVI-style models.

They retain their original gilding, which remains in very fresh condition and highlights the reliefs and various details of the ornamentation.

In very good condition.
