19th-century Austrian Silver Bridal Tiara
This is very common on this type of 19th-century silver wedding wreath (Silberkranz).
At the time, in the Germanic and Austro-Hungarian worlds, these handcrafted pieces were often made to order by goldsmiths or specialists in filigree and hammered silver garlands. Due to the extreme delicacy of the stems and leaves, striking a hallmark risked deforming or breaking the piece. They therefore regularly evaded official inspection by the hallmarking office, or were marked with only a micro-hallmark (such as a small weevil, a toucan’s head, or an import/registration mark)—now obscured by patina or nestled within a leaf’s crease.
In any case, the handwritten document provides exceptional traceability for a piece from 1875.
