17th-century Oil On Wood: St. Clare Of Assisi

With both hands, she holds a gilded monstrance shaped like a small tower, surmounted by a cross and revealing the host.
The hand supporting the base of the monstrance is wrapped in a white cloth, as a sign of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.
This attribute refers to the episode traditionally associated with the saint, who is said to have driven off the attackers at the convent of San Damiano by holding up the Eucharist.
The single-piece panel bears clearly visible tool marks on the reverse, as well as an old typewritten label reading “s.Chiara.”
