South Staffordshire Bilston Enamel Scent Bottle/bonbonniere, Ca.1770

Artist: Bilston

A superb perfume bottle and candy box made of Bilston enamel (South Staffordshire), dating from around 1770. The piece has a tapered shape and is adorned with painted panels depicting flowers and landscapes, framed by gilded scrollwork and white enamel decoration (checkerboard patterns, polka dots, and bouquets) on a deep blue background. It features finely chased gilded metal mounts and its original stopper with a retaining chain. The central gilded mount is hinged: the upper part serves as the perfume bottle, while the lower half forms a candy box (or scent box).

Dimensions:
Height: 10.7 cm (4.2 in.)
Width: 5.5 cm (2.2 in.)

Condition: Exceptional; no damage, cracks, chips, or restoration on the exterior, except for slight stress lines in the white enamel on the interior. The two sections do not close airtight, though a jeweler could correct this if necessary.

Shipping: Included to the United Kingdom, the EU, Canada, Australia, Asia, the United States, and most other destinations. Please note that any import fees or sales taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. For sales to the United States, a local sales tax may be charged in advance.
