Renaissance-era Chest

Renaissance-era oak chest. The front consists of two central panels, separated by a wide upright. The decoration features cut-out leather, cornucopias, foliage, and mirrors. The front legs are fluted and have been repaired. The upper post is carved with bird feathers. The lower post features a series of mirrors and interlaced circles. The side panels are typical of the Francis I period. This chest, which is still sturdy, retains all its fittings, as well as its inner box with a lid. The chest’s lock is missing and has been replaced by a hasp. This chest has been treated against wood-boring insects.
