Cast-iron Stove Plate
A cast-iron stove plate depicting, as is very often the case, a biblical scene. In this case, it depicts Christ and the Samaritan Woman at Jacob’s Well. These plates were attached to the stove frames with sturdy staples that fit into the notches clearly visible in the photos. These stoves, which represented a significant technological advancement, were reserved for elegant residences, particularly in the Loire Valley during the Renaissance. Made in Germany or Alsace.
