Silver- And Gold-plated Bronze Seal With Angels, 19th Century
Welcome to my antique shop. I am pleased to present this exceptional French seal dating from the second half of the 19th century.
This particularly heavy seal is crafted from silver-plated bronze and adorned with beautiful details that appear to be gilded. Its richly carved handle takes the form of an elegant architectural column in the Neo-Renaissance style.
The upper portion is adorned with two angels arranged in a mirror image. Their outstretched wings meet at the center and intertwine harmoniously. The ensemble is crowned by a partially gilded decoration in the shape of a flower or a shell. The drapery and several architectural elements are also accented with gilding.
The rectangular gilded plate bears an elegant, finely engraved monogram composed of several intertwined letters. These remain difficult to identify with certainty.
The seal is preserved in its original case, custom-made and lined with burgundy red silk. The exterior of the case shows significant signs of age and use, including wear and several areas where the lining is missing. The seal itself is in good vintage condition, with normal signs of use and a beautiful original patina.
