Original watercolor (now Place de la République). 11.8 x 17 cm (image size), in a frame measuring 25.5 x 31.5 cm. Waterstains in the sky. Signed lower left: “Gobaut.” Handwritten label on the back: “Château d’eau; Barracks (Boulevard St. Martin).”

View of the Vérines Barracks (also known as the Prince Eugène Barracks or the Château-d’Eau Barracks), with the Château-d’Eau fountain on the left. The Vérines Barracks were built in the 1850s on the site of the Vauxhall d’Été and Louis Daguerre’s diorama. Today, they house the Republican Guard.
