Object description :

"François-étienne Villeret, Animated View At The Foot Of The Saint-pierre Cathedral In Beauvais (oise)"
VILLERET, François-Étienne. Animated view at the foot of the Saint-Pierre Cathedral in Beauvais (Oise). Watercolor. 31.5 x 21.8 cm visible, in a 53.5 x 43.5 cm frame. Signed lower left: "Villeret". View of the south facade of the transept of Beauvais Cathedral, taken from the current rue Jean Vast, which has been considerably modified: none of the houses represented in our drawing still exist today. Similarly, the house that hides the bottom of the portal has disappeared to open up the perspective of the street onto the monument. Some differences can be seen, under the early 16th-century rose window, between the watercolor and the current state of the building. François-Étienne Villeret (c. 1800-1866) was an artist specialized in this type of views of cities in the northwest and north of France and more particularly in the representation of Gothic buildings.
