Gabriel Griffon (1866-1938) was a French painter and sculptor from Toulouse, particularly renowned for his gallant scenes executed in a style reminiscent of Monticelli, but with a lighter touch. He distinguished himself above all through his watercolor work, a medium in which he developed a remarkable mastery of light, transparency, and subtle tones. His oeuvre consists primarily of genre scenes, elegant figures, and lively landscapes.
Gabriel Griffon's works are mainly on display in Agen, in southwestern France. His house at 17 rue Carnot in Agen has been transformed into the Musée Griffon, dedicated to his memory and the presentation of his work. This museum displays original works by the painter, primarily from periods he spent in Agen, Bordeaux, and Nice. A retrospective exhibition was held at the Agen cultural center in 1997 to celebrate his work.
