Originally from Bordeaux, after obtaining the rank of second lieutenant at Saint-Cyr, he gave up a military career and devoted himself to his art. He first settled in Montmartre where he frequented the circle of burlesque and anarchist cartoonists, including Jean-Louis Forain, Caran d'Ache and Adolphe Léon Willette. Penniless, he returned to the southwest to Guéthary, then returned to Bordeaux where he died in obscurity.He was a childhood friend of Alexis Leger (known as Saint-John Perse).
