Painted miniature representing a portrait of a young woman in a blue dress. Signed on the right "Mme Besnard", Louise Besnard (1816-1867), mounted in a standing or hanging frame, in finely chiseled gilt bronze and executed with molded, beaded decoration and stylized leaves signed "Picart", Henri Picart ( 1829-1886).

Louise Besnard (known as Madame), born Vaillant (1816-1879)
Louise VAILLANT married in 1838 Louis-Adolphe BESNARD (1812-1867), pupil of Ingres. She was trained by Madame de Mirbel, and exhibited at the Salon from 1845 to 1867.
Maison Picart, Henri Picart (1829-1886)
Henri Picart, a famous Parisian founder and gilder, was installed at 6 rue Jarente in 1831, then in 1839 at 10 rue de la Perle where he remained until 1864. This House provided the "small apartments of the Louvre" for the Emperor Napoleon III and was recognized for the high quality of its production.
