Original drawing. Graphite, black ink, and wash. 62.8 x 47.9 cm. Paper with “Arches Fidelis MBM Inaltérable (France)” watermark. Horizontal center fold, some foxing and marks, thumbtack holes at the corners.
Title at the top of the drawing: “Palace of Versailles.” Inscription in the lower right corner: “École des Beaux-arts, Rennes”; and a signature that appears to have been erased: “Jean Fouard [?], [date illegible]”.
Sketched by a student at the École des Beaux-arts in Rennes, depicting the façade of the Pavillon Dufour at the Palace of Versailles, the symmetrical and unfinished counterpart to the Pavillon Gabriel.
