The first drawing shows the facade on the outside, the second the crossing of the transepts on the inside with the monumental rood screen built in the 16th century by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt. a) “Cathedral Tournai, West Front, 12th Cent., Porch 14th Cent.” Pencil drawing. 50.6 x 36.1 cm (sheet mounted on a 52.5 x 38.5 cm card). Pinholes, stains, soiling. Titled lower left; signed lower right: “J.A. Swan.” b) “Cathedral Tournai, View from South Transept, 13th–14th Cent., Rood screen, 16th Cent.” Pencil drawing. 53.5 x 37 cm (sheet mounted on a 63.5 x 51 cm card). Corners of the mount damaged; stamp on the reverse: “James A. Swan, FRIBA, Architect, Daimler House, Paradise St., Birmingham”. Traces of glue on the edges of the drawing. Signed lower right: “James A. Swan, 1900”. FRIBA is an honorary title meaning Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Ref. 6-80
