Pair Of Decorative Pieces Depicting 18th-century Sea Monsters

A pair of decorative pieces made of solid, carved wood. These two pieces depict fantastical, imaginary animals that resemble sea monsters. One has the head of a seahorse, while the other clearly has that of a horse. They appear to be emerging from a stepped balustrade, leaning on it with their slightly webbed feet, which are equipped with claws. Their winged bodies are covered with scales and end in tails coiled around themselves. Although these two objects are still in good condition, they have suffered the ravages of time, attesting to their age and even their reuse: one tail is missing, and there are a few chips. While it seems difficult to determine their original use, a few hypotheses can be put forward:
