A chest with napkin-fold panels dating from the late 15th or early 16th century. Its front consists of four panels featuring napkin-fold motifs, in its simplest—but also least common—form. The sides consist of two panels separated by a stanchion. Early collectors and connoisseurs referred to this cutout as “open book” or “parchment”
. It features a lock originally equipped with a bolt-and-latch system typical of that period. It is secured by a twisted clasp, while its counterpart has been replaced by a forged nail.
Its lid was replaced, likely in the 1970s, and could use some restoration. Traces of the box that was inside are still visible. One side is more damaged than the other, but this piece of furniture remains very sturdy.
This chest has been treated against wood-boring insects.
