Chronos, God Of Time, Impressive Carved Wood Sculpture, 18th–19th Century, As Found.
Artist: Art Populaire
Remarkable fruitwood sculpture, assembled from several carved elements, depicting the Greek god Chronos seated, with large raised wings, holding a scythe in his right hand and sheaves of wheat resting on his left knee.
The wood has a beautiful warm patina.
This powerful allegory of Time may have been inspired by celebrated sculpture by Ignaz Günther (1725–1775), now in Munich and illustrated in the final photograph.
Alpine folk carving, 18th–19th century, probably work of a skilled anonymous sculptor from the Alpine region, possibly Austria, Switzerland, Northern Italy or Tyrol. 38 × 38 × 28 cm
