Gilded Wooden Eagle, 18th Century
- Gilded wooden eagle, 18th century sculpture
- This gilded wooden sculpture shows us an eagle perched on a branch, its wings spread and its neck lowered, turned to the left as if watching for danger. With a concern for analytical description, the sculptor was able to give this bird of prey a real presence thanks to very realistic details such as its talons, the pressure of which is felt, its threatening hooked beak, its plumage, each feather of which seems to be detailed. The wear of time, by revealing in places the Meudon white and the red plate, reminds us of some traditional stages of the gilder's and wood painter's trade. These passages of color, from the red of the Bol d'Arménie to gold, offer us pleasant contrasts.
- Good condition, some wear is to be noted (see photos). A hook on the back allows it to be hung.
- Dimensions - Height: 28 cm, Width: 48.5 cm, Depth: 12.5 cm
