Lacquered Wooden Chair With Mother-of-pearl Inlay, Napoleon III Style, Late 19th Century

- Black-lacquered wooden chair with mother-of-pearl inlays, a piece dating from the late 19th century in the Napoleon III style.

- Black lacquered wooden chair with gilded painted decoration accented with mother-of-pearl. The seat has four Etruscan-style legs; the front legs are widely curved outward and decorated with painted gilded scroll motifs, while the rear legs taper smoothly into the backrest. The scantling, with its scalloped edge, is adorned in the center—like a cartouche—with a delicate bouquet of gilded flowers, painted and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The connecting panels feature a small flower set within a square with a gold background. They are flanked, on the band, by motifs imitating cloisonné enamelwork and, on the side rails, by painted gold rocaille motifs.

The seat features a high, open backrest that echoes the scalloped lines and painted motifs seen previously. The upper crossbar of the backrest is also adorned at its center with a bouquet of flowers enhanced with mother-of-pearl; its height allowed it to be placed in a vase.

- The seat and backrest are upholstered in bright red fabric in good condition, creating a striking contrast with the black lacquer. This is a distinctive piece that stands out for its forms and rich decoration. The choice of gold-painted motifs appears to mimic Boule marquetry, while the shimmer of the mother-of-pearl lends the decoration a certain preciousness.

- In good condition.
